The last year has shown that when you send New Democrats to Ottawa, we get results. Jagmeet and I will keep fighting for you.
Phil Klapwyk is a community and labour leader and film industry professional with deep roots in Pitt Meadows–Maple Ridge. He fell in love with the community while shooting his first film in Golden Ears Provincial Park and he is proud to call Maple Ridge home. Phil believes our community needs a new MP who puts Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge residents first.
That is why Phil is standing with Jagmeet Singh in this election. The NDP has made life better for millions of people during the COVID-19 pandemic. Phil knows there is plenty more to do and he is determined to start fighting for meaningful action on the issues that matter to people here: rights for workers, help for small businesses, and a green economy that creates good jobs.
As a union leader, he represents a diverse group of over 15,000 professionals in the BC film industry. In this role, he has championed climate action, reconciliation, equity, diversity, and inclusion. His work has contributed to billions of dollars in film production investment throughout BC, with significant production activity right here in Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge.
Starting in 2005, he took a year and a half off from film production to pursue a dream of owning and running a small cafe with his wife. This experience gave him a deep understanding of the challenges faced by small business owners. It is hugely disappointing to him that federal governments continue to favour multinational corporations over local small businesses.
He pledges to work hard in Ottawa to help ensure that the corporations and billionaires who have profited from this pandemic are the ones who pay for a fair recovery – not the working people who have already sacrificed so much. He will work with Jagmeet to build a more hopeful, equal, and secure future for all of us.
